DEPRESSION

GET PAST THE MISERY & GET BACK TO YOUR LIFE.

Major depressive disorder (depression) is a serious mental disorder that affects some 15 million Americans — or about 8 percent of the population. It is characterized by a general “low mood,” loss of interest or pleasure, low self-esteem, intense feelings of sadness or guilt and a variety of other symptoms. It dramatically and adversely affects many aspects of a person’s life, from work or school to eating habits, personal relationships, family dynamics and general health. Also, there is a strong link between depression and suicide.

For these reasons, it’s vitally important that people with depression get help. And the good news is that depression is treatable… and curable. Get thorough, focused and individualized care. Major depression is difficult to diagnose and treat effectively. So it should be addressed by, a licensed physician specializing in mental disorders.  At Rabjohn Behavioral Institute, our outstanding clinicians have extensive training and  dedicate the time and attention necessary to resolve symptoms effectively.

Pat Rabjohn, MD, PhD and Tam Redd, MD begin their evaluations with a thorough history of depressive symptoms and a careful examination of factors that bring on episodes or worsening symptoms.  They will determine which treatments have or have not helped you in the past. The complex and serious nature of depression means that diagnosis is often time-intensive, which is why the clinicians at RBI created and adhere to a patient-first care model that allows them to dedicate the time to be thorough.

After diagnosis, the clinicians at RBI create an individualized treatment plan consisting of some combination of medication, psychotherapy and modification of behaviors. They will discuss your options with you, because you are your healthcare decision-maker and your involvement is vital to getting past your depression.

OUR GOAL IS A TOTAL ABSENCE OF DEPRESSION SYMPTOMS.

At RBI, we treat depression as aggressively as other physicians treat cancer. Our goal is “total remission,” not just positive response to treatment. We’re after a total absence of symptoms. If major depression is treated aggressively and properly, it should be possible to “graduate” from treatment, meaning discontinuing medications and psychotherapy sessions.
